Valorisation Of Cultural Heritage In The Nairobi Central Business District Through Spatial Planning

Modernization, which is inevitable in every society, should not overshadow the importance of cultural heritage as a vector of development and social stability, both for present and future generations. Today, a number of traditional solutions to development, which are particularly ingenious, deserve to be taken into consideration in the search for solutions to prevailing life challenges. In order to preserve this legacy from the past, National and local communities are encouraged to protect and valorize this heritage that represents the core of their common identity.

University/City Partnerships: Creating Policy Networks for Urban Transformation in Nairobi

Kenya's capital city, Nairobi, like many rapidly growing cities in the global South is confronting massive inter-related problems of slum expansion, violence, ethnic segregation, poor service delivery, public health hazards and environmental degradation. These problems, in turn, are deep reflections of a long history of inequitable power relations at both local and global levels, repression, democratic institutional failure and skewed, exclusive urban policy and planning processes.

Urban Policy and Performance in Kenya and Tanzania

OVER the past ten years, African governments have wrestled with the
problems of designing and implementing comprehensive rural development
policies. In an overwhelmingly rural continent with, for most areas,
only a recent history of urbanisation, such an emphasis is understandable.
But if African cities are for the most part young, and small by
world standards, they are also growing faster than cities in any other
major world region. This rapid growth, superimposed on a meagre

Breastfeeding and family planning in an urban population: A case study of Kawangware, Nairobi.

This study Has concerned with one of the factorswhich influence population growth in any area, thatis, family planning. Fomen in Kenya have always achieved adequate birth intervals by breastfeeding their infants for long periods and avoiding sexual intercourse during most of the time they were breastfeeding. The high levels of population growth currently experienced in Kenya are largely a phenomena of development.

Implication of Contestation for Urban Space on Streets: a Case of Mwihoko Street, Githurai - Kiambu County

Urban streets are places that play a pivotal role of making urban life more enjoyable and lively. When not well planned, they become dysfunctional. Mwihoko Street has become an attractive place for all kinds of traffic that is viewed as a potential market by those in the informal sector. This has led to an influx of informal activities onto the streets, and in so doing, have affected the smooth functioning of the street. The main aim of the research was to assess the implications of urban street space use contestation by informal activities.

Urban Planning And Development Of Eastleigh District Commercial Centre In Nairobi.

There is an implementation gap between the urban planning and design
framework of Eastleigh District Commercial Centre EDCC) with the
development of the centre leading to higher building densities and
deteriorating infrastructural provision rendering both physical and social
infrastructure inadequate to support the high building densities and the
development of EDCC as an integrated secondary commercial center. This
problem was the basis of the aim of my research drawing lessons for

Kiserian - rural development. Kajiado district, Kenya.

Work of the Embu field station (Kenya) involves working and planning with and within the rural community to improve understanding of and relationships with local areas, and promote local participation. It performs an extension function for the local area, and feeds back its experience into education curricula. Kiserian Location lies in the Ngong division of the Kajiado District in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya and is covered by the Highlands Field Station.

A conservation ethics for sustainable urban communities in Kenya: Southern Nairobi Integrated River Basin planning and management

The interaction between natural resources, human development and environmental quality have increasingly exhibited a befitting difficulty the world over. As we begin the 215t century, fresh water resources still remain among the most impacted ecosystems. Both rural agro-pastoral economies and urbanization continue to strain freshwater resources to unprecedented levels. Water is life; thus it is' not misguiding to say that the above phenomenon eludes the long-awaited ethic for sustainable living.

Urban management challenges facing emerging towns in Kenya: a case study of Kiserian Market Centre in Kajiado County

Kiserian Market Center is one of the rapidly growing urban centers in Kajiado County. The challenge is that although the area has grown beyond the status of a rural market; having surpassed the 2,000 population threshold, its management is still under a county council which sits hundreds of kilometres away in Kajiado Town. This is worsened further by lack of an institutional, legal and policy framework to support the Kiserian spatial growth form from rural to an urban growth nucleus.
